CURATE AN ARTISTIC AND ECLECTIC LIFESTYLE USING INSTAGRAM
“The person you will be in five years depends largely on the information you feed your mind today. Be picky about the books you read, the people you spend time with, and the conversations you engage in.” -Ruben Chavez

The books you read, the films you watch, the museums and galleries you visit, and the way you present yourself to the world all matter. These activities are little glimpses into your personality and, ultimately, your true self. You can make even the most mainstream and mundane things interesting by surrounding yourself with good content! For instance, even when doomscrolling or bed rotting, these Instagram sites are filled with fascinating tidbits that make our time online worthwhile and inspire us to put down our screens! Curate everything from your diet to your mindset with helpful hints from the following Instagram pages:
“Mediterranean Diet & Lifestyle” (@mediterranean.diet.plan) offers insight on living healthier with delicious recipes. The Mediterranean diet is mostly plant-based, with fish (eaten a few days a week), some poultry and eggs, and very little red meat. The idea is to eat in moderation with an emphasis on fruits and vegetables. While we all know that’s healthy for us—and sugar should be used sparingly—it’s inspiring to find daily recipes that incorporate fresh ingredients and interesting flavors. Think of this aspect of the technical age as a substitute for clipping recipes from magazines and thumbing through family cookbooks. The internet is a great thing when used correctly and as a tool to further education and awareness.

I’m a firm believer in positive affirmations. If we tell ourselves something long enough, we’re going to start believing it. Daily.positivequotes.x is a wonderful resource for asserting oneself using helpful mantras. Sometimes all we really need are a few simple words with a strong message. This is why I love “World Poetry Collective” (@worldpoetrycollective). It’s filled with witticisms and verse from Anaïs Nin to Chopin. I love looking at old photographs. Whether they’re scanned online, in a frame, or crammed in an old shoebox under the bed, I’ve always been fascinated by snapshots of the past. It doesn’t matter if they’re images of me and my family or of strangers who have passed away long ago. I don’t care if old photos capture historical events or quiet moments, famous figures, inanimate objects, or people I’ll never meet. I simply love anything that’s a time capsule, that captures the past and holds a moment in time forever. “History Photographed” (@historyphotographed) showcases everything and everyone from Muhammad Ali to French school children drinking wine in the 1950s.

“Explaining the World in Vintage” (@howvintage) has everything you’d ever want to know about the analog world, whether it’s how midcentury handbags were manufactured, the evolution of beauty over the past one hundred years, or images of bathroom dĂ©cor from every decade. This Instagram grid is the equivalent of flipping through my favorite old magazines while “the classics, darling” (@theclassicsdarling) has hundreds of film clips, stills, and factoids all in one place. From Lesley Gore singing “It’s My Party” in 1963 to Marlene Dietrich in “Morocco” in 1930, you can enter an online space that sates your craving for glamorous nostalgia.Â
